Today the Episcopal Church remembers Patrick, Bishop and Missionary to Ireland.
Here at Grow Christians we’re trying to help you observe the major feasts of the church – especially those that pass unnoticed in popular culture. That’s why we planned ahead for St. Matthias and St. Joseph.
But even though Patrick’s day is not numbered among our church’s major feasts (which is why we didn’t warn you to plan ahead… should we have?), he’s probably among the most popular figures in church history. And for good reason!
In his memory we pray…
Almighty God, in your providence you chose your servant Patrick to be the apostle of the Irish people, to bring those who were wandering in darkness and error to the true light and knowledge of thee: Grant us so to walk in that light that we may come at last to the light of everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
So what will you do today in honor of St. Patrick?
Ever since my children first saw this video of a dialogue between Patrick and two Irishmen on the nature of the Trinity (when they were older elementary schoolers), they’ve asked for it each St. Patrick’s day.
In the spirit of sharing a tradition from my house to yours, I give you…
If you watched that video, this one will make you laugh…

I don’t celebrate st. Patrick’s day. It has become too commercialized.
